Hey guys, Duane Forrester here from Bing Webmaster Tools.
So if you’re a large brand but you’ve got a local presence, one of the key things you want to do is get into the local programs in search engines and claim those local listings. If you’re told you need to do that, it’s crucial that you take that action. And after that, you’d want to make sure that your local business, in whatever city or community it’s in, is active in that community. You need to know what’s going on, you need to be showcasing that. Because when people are coming to your location, they’re not just coming because they want to stay in your building; they’re coming for some other reason in that community. Explain to them what those community results or events actually are and they will have a much better feeling that, “Yeah, I want to stay with you, because you provided me with this useful information and it’s really a great hub for me to base this visit to that city”.
Make sure you talk to them [travelers] about amenities that matter and take a real serious look at understanding why people are looking for those amenities. [When] People are looking for an efficiency unit or a kitchenette unit, (really) you want to make sure that you call that out- that’s a subset of people. [And] there are very specific things that people are looking for when they’re actually going through that.
And you want to know, where’s the grocery store? What are the hours of operation? All of those things kind of matter, so you want to make sure that you have the ability to showcase all of that to engage them in a way that they find really valuable. As soon as that happens and you make the connection, they’re going to stay with you and be loyal. And that happens at the local level.
