Secrets & Strategies behind Back Linking:

The Misconception:
When the main concern is ranking high on Google, a common misconception most people have is that the more links they have pointing to their site, the better they will be. However, this is not the case, the reality should be focused on the quality of the links and not the amount of links.

Are you getting the most value out of your current links?

A majority of people overlook valuable current links that have the ability to be fine tuned and provide a greater value. The first step in fine tuning these current links is locating them. You can reveal these links through the Milestone Tool. After finding all the links that are pointing to your site, I would recommend to check the following items:

  • Is your anchor text keyword rich?
  • Is the link pointing to a relevant landing page?
  • Is the link placed in an optimal position (this means is the link surrounded by relevant content)

Finding new links & establishing relationships:
After getting the most out of your current links; the next step would be finding quality sites or directories, and building a relationship with the webmaster. In order to build a healthy relationship, there must be some value or benefits that you will provide to them (In most cases this value will be monetary.)  Once this relationship has been established, and you have a good contact person for the website, you can now enhance your backlinks by utilizing the following tips:

  • Have variations of your anchor text
  • Get deep links to multiple subpages of your site
  • Get links from within the content of their site
  • Get links from several different pages of their site

If these tips are properly used, they will enhance your link by making it appear as a true editorial link. This is a big bonus in the eyes of the search engine and also encourages click-throughs.

Getting the most out of the webmaster:
At this point, the next step would be to build a network of webmasters. Since the site you are linking to is most likely in the same vertical, there is no harm in asking a simple questions, “Do you know any other sites/webmasters that can help promote my site”. By following these simple rules the results can be amazing!

What if your business location is listed incorrectly on Google Maps? What can be more frustrating than people not finding right direction to your business? Can your business location be fixed? Thankfully, the answer to this question now is “Yes” because of Google’s new map-editing functionality called Map Marker.
Google’s Map Marker lets you edit your business location on Google Maps by simply dragging the location marker on the map to the correct point. All you need is a Google Local Business Center account.
Once you have a Google Local Business Center account, you can log into your account and:

  1. Click “Fix incorrect marker location”
  2. Next, you can use the mouse to pick up your marker and drag it to your street address. Use the tools in the upper left corner of the map to pan and zoom for a better view.
  3. Next, click “Save Changes” and you’re all set. It’s as simple as that!

With the introduction of Google’s “Universal Search” back in May of 2007, the ever increasing need to surface among a sea of a multifaceted search is approaching new advancements. With the blend of news, images, video, and local all under one roof it is increasingly important to include a comprehensive sitemap for your website—and that includes video!

On December 24th 2007, Google announced their Google Site Map Generator tool. Now, via Google Webmaster tools, you can create a separate video sitemap file complete with title and description tags allowing yet another way for web crawlers to index your page.

What does this mean? More Traffic! With the pressure for webmasters to adapt to new ways in getting top rankings for their relevant search terms and keywords Google Site Maps lends a helping hand. “By submitting this video-specific Sitemap in addition to your standard Sitemap, you can specify all the video files on your site, along with relevant metadata,” said the Webmaster Central blog.

According to Google “…when you submit a Video Sitemap to Google, we will make the included video URLs searchable on Google Video,” and they go on to say “…in addition, your video may also appear in other Google search products.” Now videos on YOUR domain have a greater chance of getting listed in Google’s index!

The Sitemap is essential for the success of any Search Engine Optimization campaign. The general rule to follow for an internal linking structure is making sure that all pages are no more than two links away. In other words, I can navigate to any given page on my website within one or two clicks. Once this system of internal linking is in place the sitemap acts as an “insurance policy.” Meaning that sometimes the search engines get confused which links to follow, thus the sitemap acts as a guide for a confused search engine, or even a confused individual.

We are all familiar with the Google Webmaster and Yahoo Site Explorer tools. These tools provide webmasters a great deal of insight into the performance of a site by providing site metrics such as when the site was last indexed (read) by search engines, if the site has any HTTP errors, if there are certain URLs that search engines cannot read, etc.

Google, the online search leader, is expanding the number of advertisements it delivers to mobile devices. On Monday, September 17th, Google announced that any web site accessible through a mobile Web browser, will automatically display.

An announcement posted by Google on Adwords account reads:

“We have begun showing eligible ads on Google Mobile Search pages - making it easier for you to reach additional qualified customers. Clicks on these ads will be free through November 18. You may opt out of this feature at any time.”

What this means is that if the text ads are eligible to appear on Google Mobile Search pages, they will automatically run on Mobile Search Pages for free through November 18, 2007.  After which, you’ll start getting charged for the Ads running on Mobile Search on a cost-per-click basis, if you do not opt out. If you wish your ads to not show up on Google Mobile Search network, you can opt out anytime by logging into your Adwords account and following the instruction listed there to opt out.

Ad displays with more than 70 characters are adapted so that only the Headline and URL shows up on a mobile browser. Also, the website’s landing page may be adapted so that it is better displayed on mobile phones that do not have rich internet browsers.
