Weddings During a Pandemic

Challenges can be the mother of invention, and the covid pandemic has made large in-person gatherings impossible. But, people still want to and need to get married and want to celebrate with family and friends, even if that group is restricted to 10 guests by local pandemic guidelines.

One Milestone customer came up with a solution that meets all the needs of people looking to marry in the Providence Rhode Island area and adheres to the local safety guidelines. And the solution is micro weddings.

They decided to call it the Elopement Package, which consists of a wedding ceremony by an officiant they provide, a ceremony for 10 guests on the terraced rooftop area, a champagne toast, and a night at the hotel for the couple in a suite.

In addition to weddings, they can also do anniversaries, birthdays, and retirement celebrations as all of these events are best celebrated on or near the actual date rather than waiting months or seasons for a time when the pandemic will more under control.

Hotel Providence came up with the idea and their agency Milestone worked out the details on how to promote it on the site and market it in digital media. The response has been very strong with many inquiries and a number of events booked in just 3 weeks since they launched the idea.

Media stories covering the Hotel Providence offer dominate the SERPs for the query “micro wedding Providence,” which demonstrates the power and value of omnichannel marketing and distribution.

Part of Milestone’s point of view is that the covid pandemic has accelerated some trends that were emerging already, like telemedicine, telecommuting, and more delivery options—all solutions that are customized to better meet the needs of customers and users. The micocelebration concept meets the needs within the covid group gathering guidelines, but innovators, like Hotel Providence may find the smaller event at the lower price point will have an audience even after the pandemic because it meets the basic needs of officiating and celebrating within a very reasonable budget. Further, the smaller, shorter events mean they can book more events per day and increase revenue that way also. Milestone team also promoted the offer on social media for the client that lead to increased visits to the website.
