The on-going challenge in social media is keeping up with the growing number of social platforms, applications, tools, features, and groups. It is important for hotels to stay ahead of the curve by participating in various social channels. Our goals are to create buzz, obtain links, branding, and promotion. This session was dedicated to introducing the raising stars of social media venues.
What I took away from this session were a few social media channels that were highlighted by each of the speakers. The following sites were a common thread amongst the panelists:
StumbleUpon – The golden star! Perhaps the most hyped and talked about social medium
amongst the panel. Join their beta group to explore and rate websites,
photos, and videos based on your interests.
Social Media for Firefox – The must have tool bar. This status bar shows the number of votes content has received on social sites such as StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, Sphinn, ect.
Reddit – The next Digg. Users can submit links and vote on other
sites based on preference. 80% of visitors to Reddit are not registered
users so it’s important to be a part of this circle.
Twitter –Make sure to become friends with Mr. Tweet! He is a personal networking
assistant that can help build relationships by analyzing your network and tweets.
His will help you with:

•”Regularly update useful stats of your Twitter usage”
Sign up for a free Twitter Management tool on Easy Tweets. This is a marketing tool that allows users to manage multiple Twitter accounts from “one central web-based platform, automatically post content, schedule items to post in the future, as well as read, reply, and follow conversations.”
In conclusion, this was an informative session about the upcoming social media tools that will help with promotion, branding, link building, and creating a buzz about your business. Keep in mind that social media marketing platforms are updated every 3 to 6 months so stay in the loop by participating and contributing to the latest social channels.
