Video Optimization Tips and Useful Keyword Tools

Video Optimization & Useful Video Keyword Research Tools

Universal Search Results are ever changing. Video optimization has been around for some time, but recently it’s been gaining much more attention in the community.  In the past, Forrester released a stat saying that Video is 50X more likely to rank in Google’s 1st page of results.  We need to go after the low hanging fruit! Below are a few quick tips from Brian McDonald of Barefoot Proximity on video optimization and testing.

  • Host videos on your own site as well as third party sites, such as Youtube and Vimeo. (This gives you greater exposure and helps in monopolizing the SERPs.)
  • Test Thumbnail image: have the same video with different thumbnail images to see which one performs best. You will begin to see a correlation between the types of images that people gravitate towards.
  • Optimize your video content by platform. Be in tune with demographics for each channel and tailor your content accordingly.
  • Surround your video with original content & the video transcript.

Marty Weintraub, President of AimClear, shared an amazing tool with us. Scrape Box (http://www.scrapebox.com/) is a keyword research tool that is able to pull results from YouTube suggest box as well as Google Suggest in addition to others. This cuts down on valuable time and provides you with a fuller keyword list. He also presented Mozenda (http://www.mozenda.com). This is a tool that allows you to pull YouTube ranking reports for videos with specific keywords.

It’s still fairly simple to obtain video ranking within the SERPs by following simple guidelines: feature videos through various avenues, test thumbnails for optimal conversion, optimize content by platform and provide transcripts.  Keep testing and if something doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to update and try again.
