Any company can attempt to get more traffic to your hotel’s website. But are they driving the right kind of traffic?

The number of visitors a site gets is a great first step to determine where to spend marketing dollars, but it should not be the only metric a marketer looks at. Paying attention only to how many visitors your hotel’s site gets is like saying, “Wow my hotel lobby is full”, but not tracking how many of those people in the lobby actually stayed at the hotel. Any company can attempt to get more traffic to your hotel’s website. But are they driving the right kind of traffic?

Tracking your referral sources gives you a lot of insight into what is driving traffic and which of your marketing efforts are drawing visitors to the website. I recently reviewed data for a hotel in San Diego that increased its marketing efforts on a local directory. In the month of April, they had over 900 visitor referrals to the website and the directory was #3 in referrals to the site. That is an average of 30 visitors per day, which seems like a great number. In comparison, a directory geared towards the “pet friendly” niche drove fewer visitors to the site.

While the number of referred visitors is a great first step, it is important to review and determine how many of these referrals actually convert. To get a more complete picture, you can cross referrence referral sources with the visitors who actually went to the property’s booking engine to check rates.

The numbers were very interesting. Google was the top referring source and had a 36% conversion rate. Over one third of the visitors who came to the site from Google converted and checked rates. SanDiego.com on the other hand, only had 20 visitors from the referring traffic funnel go to the booking engine… a mere 2.2% of total visitor traffic from that directory. On the flip side, although dogfriendly.com had just 20 referrals that month, 9 people clicked through to the booking engine to check rates. That’s a 45% conversion rate! This indicates that visitors from the niche site were more targeted to the site’s offerings.

Each hotel can use this data to match up average conversions and make some calculations of total revenue based on their ADR (average daily rate) and ALOS (average length of stay). Even if one source has a lower conversion rate, it does not necessarily mean it is not the right strategy. Having as many facts as possible will help the hotel make the best determination as to which of their efforts are working best.

New hotel websites can compete against older existing domains by following a proven method with three easy steps.

As the Internet continues to be the most important distribution channel for hotels, how can new websites compete against older existing domains? The simple answer is aggressive link building, but rather than another article explaining links, I’ll suggest another proven method to get a new domain to hit the ground running with three easy steps:

Purchase domain early and setup a one page website

Create a handful of authoritative inbound local links

Build original content to boost traffic when the site goes live

Once you’ve acquired the hotel or decided to develop an independent website, purchase a keyword-rich URL and publish a one or two page brochure on that domain. This page should include your address, general information about your hotel, booking engine widget, and local attractions in your market. Since only a few consumers will be able to find this page, and will eventually be replaced by a full-blown website, save time and effort by creating a simple html page. Furthermore, since search engines don’t immediately reward websites with front page placement until they trust your content, verify your referrals (inbound links), and your site becomes more mature, developing this temporary page will start the clock on your domain age and begin gaining relevancy for your soon-to-be full blown website.

After your page is live, begin socializing your domain via links with other local businesses and Internet directories. This will allow search engine robots to find your new site naturally through relevant inbound links. In the example above, the directory is confirming that the business is a hotel, offering accommodations in a specific region, and the directory has a cached image of the temporary webpage. New websites with no history can gain prime visibility within the first six months for long tail local and attraction-based searches and should optimize accordingly. The more sought after and highly competitive [City Hotel] and [Hotel City State] keyword results take longer to achieve visibility in competitive markets, so focusing your optimization on these competitive terms will generate less revenue in the first year as compared to the long tail searches.

Whether you’re a year from breaking ground on a new hotel, or simply want to get ahead during the typical 60-90 days of development on a full website, a new URL can benefit from a temporary webpage. As you can see from the image below, the temporary page not only generated some traffic in January and February, but because the domain has gained relevancy, the full website very quickly started getting consistent, relevant traffic when it launched in March.

It is common knowledge that getting other relevant websites to link to your website is one way to improve your search engine ranking. One of the biggest challenges we often hear from hoteliers is “I don’t know how to do that” and I am frequently asked to share the things that I did as a hotelier to be successful with my internet marketing strategies. The following are three easy steps to help get more local links to your website and enhance your search engine optimization.

Step 1 – It’s All About the Niche

Think about the niche markets that you currently target. For example, if my hotel is near a University. In the offline world, I would saturate as many departments as I could, from athletics to law to the business school, in an effort to find new business, take that same strategy online. While most of my competitors might have a listing to a brand site on the school’s ‘general hotels in the area’ page, by asking a few well-placed questions on my calls, I may not only get a listing to my independent website, but also listings from a few other departments as well. Search engines give more weight to .edu and .gov sites, and by taking a few extra minutes as part of a normal sales call, you can secure more links and greatly compliment your search engine optimization efforts.

Step 2 – Every Sales Call

Many of the large corporations have travel departments through which they book. However, many of the smaller guys still book direct. Use this to your advantage. One of my favorite questions to ask as part of a sales call is: “Do you publish information on your website for your travelers?” If they do, provide them with your site information and if they don’t, explain why it is a great tool to allow their travelers to “inspect” your property and see the value they can get before they stay with you. While this strategy probably won’t work with a Microsoft or Intel, it works more often than not for small to midsized companies. You can then use your analytics tools to track which companies are referring more business to you through their website.

Step 3 – Enhance with More Research

If you have exhausted all of your normal resources and you are still looking for more, one simple tool to find more potential links can be found at freekeywords.wordtracker.com. Type in your city and/or state in the tool, and it will give you an idea of what consumers are searching for. In the example below, Stamford Connecticut led to several results including several searches for the phrase “Stamford Connecticut balloon parade”. By doing a quick search, I found information regarding the parade online as well as a website and phone number for more information. The next step would be to call the organization and see about partnering and/or getting that link back to my website.
These steps will help you learn to overcome the “I don’t know how to do it” syndrome and go out there and generate more links for your website.

Hotels that adopted a social media strategy early are now receiving preferred front page placement in Google for competitive search queries.

According to the Google Blog, “We were excited by the number of people who chose to try it out {Social Search Experiment in October}, and today Social Search is available to everyone in beta on google.com.” Social Search enables Google to deliver more relevant content on the front page created by people you know and trust. Google users will now see results directly from connections via Twitter, Facebook, RSS, Flickr & Picasa, and subscriptions using Google Reader.

For the hospitality industry, this brings new light to online reputation management and the importance of maintaining your social media networks. Social Circle is the users’ extended network of online contacts found through your Google accounts or links setup in your Google Profile. Universal search saturates the front page with results from local, images, videos, blogs, news, and now “Results from people in your social circle.” Hotels need to engage in social media marketing strategies which compliment their organic efforts. For example, a search for “san francisco international airport hotel” in Google has over 15 million competing web pages in which the Crowne Plaza SFO has positions 4 and 5 organically, but now they also saturate the bottom fold because of my Twitter connection with the hotel.

It’s important to note that content is not only coming in from tweets, but directly from the hotel’s website. Google provides a quick look under the hood by clicking on ‘My social circle’ to the right of your social search listing. Below you can see that my connection to the Crowne Plaza SFO via Twitter will also generate results from their site as the hotel Twitter account links back to their own website.

This means optimized content from your organic strategy can appear in the top ten, as well as a ‘result from people in your social circle’. A niche search for “SFO park and fly hotels” displays an internal package page of the Crowne Plaza SFO’s website, thus saturating the SERP with your listings.

In conclusion, Google’s Social Search offers hoteliers another opportunity to reach their potential guests using social media channels. Social Search is the second tool from Google to connect users with content from social networks, following the recent release of Google’s Real-Time Search. To learn more about Google Social Search, please visit Google’s video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYf5iSA6t6g. [ back to top ]

A session at SMX Convention, Santa Clara Convention Center in March 2010 details good link building strategies and tips, techniques, and resources for same. The panel of experts answered diverse questions related to best practices, tools and sources for link building.

SMX 2010 Session – Linkbuilding Q&A

Que: Is Article marketing a waste of time?
Ans: Articles can be a good source of links as well as leads. More than syndication the consensus was to socialize the content by twitter, Digg, del.ico.us etc. Tip to search for blogs to post / submit your article – Search using keywords like "guest post", "submit your article". On delcicous.com tag article and sort by tags or popularity.

Que: How do you justify the budget for link initiatives when you cannot track benefits?
Ans: We can track visits from links established via Analytics. Also, can #tag or use javascripts (Google started to index some #). Other tracking options – webmaster tools, Yahoo Site link explorer, for blogs.google.com can use link: tool to find links.

Que: URL Shorteners & branded short urls – can any benefits be passed on from these?
Ans: SEO benefits of using url shortners is no different than using full urls. Recommended services for url shorteners was bit.ly (they have investors & also same investors as twitter so they are here to stay awhile even though their domain is based out of Libya; fact that they have exclusives for twitter.com makes them the best). In contrast ow.ly is a definite no-no. Danny suggested acquiring branded url shortened versions with services so nobody else can grab them or shorten your urls maliciously. So get customs names for your website / brand.

Que: Twitter links are "no follow" – so any point of twitter links?
Ans: Twitter no follows urls might not have much SEO effect but it is an excellent medium to distribute your blog/article/url to a wide audience who may then link back to you. Also, you can put a twitter widget on your website and pass twitter juices outside twitter. Think of twitter as akin to your email service – a distribution channel, which gets you wider audience.

Que: How does Google weigh internal links versus external links?
Ans: Even a poor quality external link from a low PR page is worth more than an internal link. But it is good practice to have keyword rich anchor text links on your page. The most important thing is to ensure that if you have dead-ends on your website like word documents or pdfs then definitely link back from such pages to home.

Que: What are the key qualities to look for in a great linkbuilder?
Ans: Experience, social (bloggers who are respected in their space & drive traffic) and the discretion /transparency -Linkbuilders should also be strategic & technical to an extent so they know where to gain critical citations, how to embed codes & widgets, diversify anchor text etc.

Que: As Wikipedia links are no follow, are they of any SEO value?
Ans: Not as SEO value lender in terms of link juices but immense value for researchers and can generate back links to your website outside of Wikipedia. It brings direct traffic to your website and then this traffic may link back. It is true that no follow links are no SEO value as far as Google is concerned. Even though Google shows some no follow links in backlink analysis it does not mean they help ranking. Also please note : even PR 1 & 2 links also lend some little value for SEO.

Quick tip from Danny on Linkbuilding sources: search for a keyword in Google & the top results in SERPs are the best sources to link from.

Que: Is it a good practice to be on websites who link to your competitors?
Ans: To be at par with your competitors you need to be linking back from the websites they are on (but ensure these are relevant to your site / vertical). A good tactic is also to go and look for parallel links which is from sites not directly inking to your competitor or who do not link to your competitors to stay one step ahead.

Que: Linksculpting – does it work?
Ans: To hide outgoing links using no follows, iframes, javascripts – according to Google all these linksculpting practices are useless & they will find your outgoing links.

Que: Is using Digg to build links beneficial & if yes how does one get to first page of dig?
Ans: This one generated difference of opinions amongst the panelists – most concurred it does not pay to get irrelevant links off digg just because you have a trending topic which is not related to your space. But Fishkin felt if you host link baiting content on your site (in subdomain or subfolder) pertaining to topics which diggers link to then it will lift the overall website in terms of link juices. To get to front pages of digg- identify players who are big on digg in your space, establish a rapport, release content with their suggestions/approval and then they link back to it & this helps generate more links on dig.

Quick tip: Matt Cutts endorsed linkbaiting (unofficially)

Que: Paid Link Services – risk versus gains?
Ans: This is a grey area. Google does not like and penalizes link sellers as well as link buyers. You can decide the gains outweigh the risks and go with this but you may come under the scrutiny of Google (not immediately or in a year or so) and in fact Google’sScrutiny is rumored to become more and more stringent in the very near future.

Que: What are the best link building strategies that have worked for you?
Ans: The panelists each had a personal favorite on how to get the best links:

Rand Fishkin – Content syndication – write great content, license it out and then get links back as website who use this content will need to embed content & give due credit so it’s a good source of valid links, opt in & is also a scalable model.

Roger Montti – some high value sites actually ask for your suggestions on recources eg. Local .edu, newspapers etc.

Garrett French – doing group interviews of industry experts or thought leaders or bloggers with huge following – the interviewee always links back to published interview & this also leads to their followers linking back to your article

Mike Gullaksen – likes creating a tool or widget which fulfills a community need eg a calculator for a mortgage website and this gets backlinks naturally.

Conclusion: The basic take home message was manual linkbuilding to relevant websites is still king. There exists a grey area between white & black hat SEO practices when it comes to Link building. To find that balance between risk & gain while paying for links is key. Socializing to gain links is the newest way to go. Linkbuilding technology is ever evolving and companies need to adapt to this but old school still rules – good quality relevant links from trusted sites are the best.

SMX West 2010 session on key link building fundamentals

Link building is a critical factor for SEO success which involves both strategic and tactical thinking and practices. How to conduct a winning link building campaign was covered in this session at the SMX West by Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz, Garrett French of Ontolo and Mike Gullaksen of Covario.

We mostly think of link building as tactical. However, strategic link building provides the business with a long term competitive advantage which would also create a barrier to entry for others. Strategic link building means making it a part of the product, like Twitter, Urban Spoon or Survey Monkey have.

Link acquisition is part of their product. When you link to Twitter, you are rewarded. Hence, when a business can answer the question “What do we do for those who link to us?” they will acquire a competitive advantage like no other as far as link building goes.

To address the tactical practices for link building, here are some guidelines:

Any kind of links matter, not just those with high page rank. Every sharing activity has value for Google.

Create a tactical plan: identify the key players in your space and build relationships with them- community, associations, bloggers etc.

Create content which is two pronged: engages community and induces reciprocity.

Blog about products, services, events, travel. These are easily scraped and reposted.

Use link analysis tools to identify link opportunities.

Create a Google Alert to find out who is talking about you, your products and your competition.

Continue with directories enrollment.

Use PR

In conclusion, link building is probably the most challenging aspect of SEO. Strategically, if you can have link building in the product plan and not just in the marketing plan, you have a great chance of dominating your niche. Tactically, create content which invites links, engage with the community and use link analysis tools to identify more opportunities. Link building is an ongoing effort.

1. Verify Local Listing.

Having verified local address is one of the most important factor. Local Listing has to be verified manually. This is one of the important ranking factor for local search. If a listing is verified say for Google, google has trust in this listing. By verifying the listing, we are making sure all the information we submitted to google is accurate. Be descriptive in your listings..

2. On Page and Off Page Listing.

On Page
The listing has to be submitted to the right categories. Make sure to check the information regularly. If information is incorrect then override the incorrect information
Upload relevant videos, images from youtube and flickr. Reference from youtube, flickr accounts is also important factors.

Off Page
List the business on major Internet Yellow pages.
Data submitted to all the directories has to be accurate
Make sure that citation (data about your business) from data provide is accurate. Business has to be accurately listed on major directories like Info USA, Super Pages, Yellow Pages, Yelp & Insider Pages.

Customer Reviews

Customer reviews is another major factor for local. Good reviews help in building trust in the Business. Reviews in Trip Advisor, Yelp, Judy’s Book, City Search, Yahoo and other directories are very important. But it’s quality of the reviews and not the volume.

Traditional on page criteria

Try to make the page spider able, Include city name and state name in title page, put down the full address of the business with contact information in HTML format. Seo is about optimizing website and local seo is about optimizing locations.

In nutshell, We need to enhance quality of information available on the web by verifying it, fixing and adding more relevant content on the web.

Majority of competitive analysis is examining a competitor’s in-link structure – both quantity and quality. Search engines place the most weight on link-building. The better the strategy, the higher your rank. The following article discusses some ways to analyze your competitor so that you can rank above him.

10% of competitive analysis includes keyword placement and website structure. 90% is based on link analysis. Here are some tips for both approaches:

How keyword rich is your competitor’s website?

View the text-only cached version of a competing website. It will highlight where and how they use their keywords, including the title. More keyword dense everywhere, the better.

What is their overall SEO sophistication?

Unnecessary metatags, too much Flash, and long URLs allude to amateur SEO. Seasoned SEO experts make websites is easily indexable, which means homing in on just the necessary keywords and eliminating unnecessary codings.

Seoinsites.com/tools/websitequalityindicator is a paid tool that displays a report on a competing website. Enter the URL of your competitor and you will find the following information:

What is the quality of their links?

The Deep Link ratio shows the percentage website’s inlinks that are pointing to a page other than the homepage. A low ratio means the competitor has plenty of low quality inlinks. For example, if the competitor pays for run-of-site advertising on a news website, all inlinks will be pointing to the homepage only. (Compare Total Incoming Links to Home Page and Total Incoming Links to a domain.) For ranking purposes, search engines will actually count all the links coming from that one domain as only one link.

Are they practicing black hat SEO?

It is always better to have a small number of backlinks that are of high quality and credible than having a large number of backlinks that are irrelevant and coming from single or multiple domains.

Use a combination of going directly to the competitor’s website and using analytic tools to get the whole breadth of your competitor’s linkbuilding strategy. Do more than just copy; rather, understand their weaknesses to improve your own performance. Place most of your emphasis on making your website keyword rich, indexible, and credible by practicing ethical and natural means of link-building.

In tough economic times like these you want to make sure that you are getting the most effective links online for your money. Directory listings can be expensive - especially if you are advertising with you CVB or on high profile online directories for your business niche. Before you spend thousands of dollars a year on a good link campaign for you site, read on to find out the top 4 listings that are vital to a successful SEO site.

Before we start talking about how to have a great organic strategy by gaining backlinks, the most important factor is having a well optimized site with good original content and properly placed keywords and anchor links throughout each page of your site. Each page should be optimized for one main idea and have proper keywords for that page to support the content on that page. Once you have completed that step and your site is live, you will want to start linking to other sites that are relevant to you to build your organic strategy.

But first, you will want to understand a couple pitfalls with Linkbuilding:

Most Directories don’t have much value since everybody links to them, search engines know these are easy links and do not place much value on them.

To many link directories can make your profile unbalanced and make it look skewed.

In order to avoid these pitfalls, you want to focus on the quality of links and not the quantity. So let’s take a look at the top 4 directories you will want to make sure your site is listed on as a first priority.

The Top 4 Directories for any well optimized site are: Yahoo! Directory, DMOZ, Business.com and Best of the Web.

1.	Yahoo! Directory: http://search.yahoo.com/dir
Price: $299.00 a Year
Why It’s So Important: Yahoo! Directory is a really great directory that is recognized by the other search engines and will help in the overall organic strategy of your site. Yahoo! Directory will also link you with over seas directories, resulting in multiple backlinks.

Tips for Getting Listed:

Figure out the main focus of the site and type that into the search on Yahoo! Directory. Ex. Santa Clara California Hotel.

Look at the “Related Directory Categories” that come up on the first page, as you may want to drill down deeper into a certain category if the main category has a lot of listings

Look at the results for a few different keywords or under related categories. If the keyword in which you want your site listed has “0” or low page rank it’s going to make the Yahoo! Directory listing less valuable. And for $299.00 a year you want to get the most out of your listing

You want to make sure that the listing on Yahoo! Directory does not have tons of listings already under that category, and if it does, make sure each page has decent page rank, otherwise you may want to find a more niche category. Also keep in mind that each page has a different page rank than the next. Just because page 2 has a Page Rank of 3 does not mean page 3 will have a page rank lower than that.

If you find a category you like with good page rank, but the category does not quite fit the site exactly, then you will want to read other sites title tags and descriptions so you can tweak your site to match for more of the categories keywords. Tailor your description to the category so you will guarantee submission to a good category with good Page Rank as this will give your listing more value.

2. DMOZ: www.dmoz.com
Price: FREE
Why It’s So Important: DMOZ or Open Directory Project is the oldest online directory edited by people who critique each site and listing submission before accepting. DMOZ is recognized by Google as one of the best and most highly regarded listings a site can have.

Tips For Getting Listed:

When you first go to DMOZ you will want to pick a category that best fits your site. If you are a hotel located in Santa Clara, California for example, then you will want go to Travel and drill down until you find the appropriate category which would be Santa Clara Hotels.

When you get a category that fits your business, such as Santa Clara California hotels, you will want to analyze whether this is really a good spot for your hotel / business. Three ways to tell are:

    a. Look at how many listings are in the category. If there are many pages of results, then your chances being listed here are lower because there are already so many businesses that the editor may feel that this category is complete. So try to pick a category that does not have a lot of listings.

  b.	Make sure there is an active editor for the category. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see your category has an active editor. If it says ‘Volunteer to edit this category” then check to see when it was last updated. If this category needs a volunteer or has not been updated in awhile, then you know there if you submit your site to this category you will not be listed because no one is there to edit and verify that listing, so try anther category.

  c. If you offer more than one type of service or talk about different topics on your site, it’s perfectly okay to submit your site to a different category as long as the URL you submit takes the person to the page that has the most information based on the category you submitted your site to. For example, if you are a hotel in Santa Clara California and your site has a page about California’s Great America theme park, then try submitting your site there instead. Just remember you will need to make sure there is an active editor.

When you find a link in DMOZ that fits your site, has an active editor and is an overall good fit, you will still want to check one last item. Copy and paste that category URL into Google (it will probably be really long) to see if it has been indexed. If it says No Results Found, then Google has not indexed this page on DMOZ. If this is the case, go ahead and submit your site anyways. When you do get listed in that category, put a link on your site to your DMOZ listing. That way when Google crawls your site it will see the link and index this category on DMOZ.

3. Business.com: www.business.com
Price: $299.00 a year
Why It’s So Important: This is another really solid directory with good page rank and a lot of credibility if you have the right kind of listing.

Tips For Getting Listed:

Getting listed on Business.com is relatively easy as long as you know what to look for and where to go to get the listing you need.

When you get to www.business.com, you will see a few choices at the top of the site to the left of the search bar. One the choices is: Advertise With Us. You do not want to pick this, because this advertising is for PPC ads and that is not what you want.

What you do want is what is called a Standard Listing. So scroll to the bottom of the page and look for Advertising Center. Click on that and scroll down until you see Internet Directory Inclusion. This listing will give you the relevancy you want as it is a direct link your site.

There are two other types of listing you want to make sure to avoid. One is a Featured Listing and the other is a PPC ad. Although the Featured listing may sound better – you want to avoid it, and here is why. When you go to business.com search for something that is related to the category you are looking for. When you get to the results page you will notice a couple different looking listings,

Scroll a few different listings with your mouse and keep you eyes at the bottom of the screen. There you will find a URL that may look like this:

If you see this, notice that it is not giving that site a direct link. Instead it is re-directing the site through business.com as you can see with the rd.business.com. You will want to avoid this, as this is not going to give your site and credibility or help build your online organic strategy.

What you will want to look for, and what you will need to purchase is a Standard Listing which looks like this:

At the bottom of the page you will see that the listing for Comfort Inn & Suites – South Bay has a direct listing that has not been re-directed through business.com and that is the only type of listing you will want to secure.

4.	Best of the Web: www.botw.com
Price: $99.95 or $249.95
Why It’s So Important: Best of the Web is another really great, well organized directory with good page rank and will give your site relevancy. Also check out Best of the Best of the Web local, as this is a new site by BOTW and another great listing for you to have.

Tips for Getting Listed:

There are two prices for Best of the Web. You can choose a re-occurring annual fee of $99.95 or a lifetime listing of $249.95. Make sure you choose the one that is right for you, as it can become costly over time.

If you are just starting out in the SEO world with a brand new domain name and website, or if you have an older site that needs optimization and updates, be sure to read on for some tips on how to get your site optimized by following these 8 steps.

Whether you are building a website for the first time, or if you are optimizing your old site, there are some major factors that contribute to your overall ranking in Search Engines. The two key factors for improving your ranking are: content and inbound links.

Website Content: First, content is very important because relevant content ensures a better organic listing on the search engines results pages and gives overall credibility to your website. This also means having keyword rich Meta tags and anchor links. While it is important that your content is keyword rich, it should also be readable, relevant and useful to your readers.

Inbound Links: The second most important thing to do to optimize your site is to have “juicy” inbound links. This is so important because the more relevant sites you have linking to your website, the more credible your website will be seen in the eyes of search engines, and your overall ranking will improve organically as well.

Link Building: The best way to start getting inbound links to your website is through credible directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo! Be very critical of your inbound links, because having inbound links from sites that are not credible will also bring your website ranking down.

Keyword Research: Keyword research is the foundation to a well-optimized website. Make sure you do proper keyword research by using programs such as Word tracker or Keyword Universe, or try some the free keyword research tool available through Google Adwords.

Site Design: The design of your site needs to be easy to navigate by your users and the web crawlers. It is also important that you have a “Call to Action” or a way your customers can call, e-mail, or make a purchase on every page. Have a clear navigation structure with important links to other pages of your site “Above the Fold” so that they are easily accessible and easy to see.

Pay Per Click: If you have a brand new domain and are having trouble getting traffic on your site, try a PPC Campaign to bring in traffic & test which keywords are and aren’t working.

Social Media Optimization: Also, don’t forget about social media optimization. Create a Blog on your site, or set-up a page on MySpace or Facebook. YouTube is also another hugely popular way to promote yourself, with 2.5 billion current users; you are bound to get your message out to someone.

Press Releases: Lastly, if you have press releases, be sure to include those on your website and optimize them with your most important keywords because they show up in search results just like regular news articles on Google News. This can be an easy way to build your online reputation.
